The first week of December has come and gone!
Here’s what we’ve been chatting about over the last five days:
On WordPress
- What do you ask new clients? We put together a list of discovery questions for small WordPress projects.
- Build device-native apps in WordPress with the magic of AppPresser. Check out their launch video. Impressive stuff.
- The WP Knowledge Base theme turns WordPress into a support platform. More details on WP Tavern.
On CSS & SASS
- An oldie but a goodie: cross-browser callout box using CSS border triangles. Also from MrColes: Drag n’ drop dragon action in your browser.
- WordPress Core is starting to adopt Sass, and so are we. Cue the inevitable function reference that comes with learning new languages.
- Share CSS colour palettes with Colorpeek. Install their Google Chrome extension to pull colour schemes from the pages you visit.
- The ultimate Flexbox cheatsheet shows off the powerful new CSS layout module. Sayonara, float=””!
- Speaking of layouts: DOM Monster is a handy bookmarklet that audits your webpage structure (along with other things).
- Preprocess all the things with Prepros. It’s a free, open-source, cross-platform preprocessor client for CSS, JavaScript, and images.
- Keep your Sass organized with imports and partials. “Gone are the days of 3000 line stylesheets.”
- Optimizing for mobile takes more than changes to design and layout. Your content will probably need updating as well.
- Sprite Cow helps you create CSS sprite maps, right in the browser, and it’s free!
Other Code Stuff
- Big displays need love, too. We’re thinking a lot about small screens, but what about large screens?
- What do screens want? This essay by designer Frank Chimero explores the neglected potential of displays. “Screens have flux, and so do we.”
- You too can be an awesome 1337 ub3r haxx0rz with HackerTyper. Now you don’t need to build a GUI in Visual Basic. Take that, CSI!
- “You shouldn’t memorize the talk word for word, but you should have the ideas down front and back.” Become a better presenter.
- PhoneGap without the PhoneGap. Apache Cordova lets you build native device apps with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Life & General Miscellanea
- Good eats for cheap. Budget Bytes provides recipes for affordable meals that don’t suck.
- Nothing says Happy Holidays like a gif card. Put memes on paper thanks to Brooklyn-based Gifpop!
- Teach me how to teach. Good meetings and good teaching go hand-in-hand.
That’s it for this week! Enjoy the weekend.
