Yes, our wrap-up post is a day later than usual, but it’s here! (We blame it on the long weekend. The sunshine is throwing everyone off.) It’s been a busy week in the world of WordPress:
1. WordPress 3.6 is here!
The biggest story of the week, without a doubt, is the release of WordPress 3.6 (“Oscar”). The official launch video (below) is a fun departure from previous WordPress releases.
In his annual State of the Word presentation at WordCamp San Francisco, WordPress co-creator and Automattic founder Matt Mullenweg announced the intent to release two more major version updates before the end of the year.

2. WooThemes Increases their Prices
WooThemes, one of the most successful commercial WordPress theme & plugin shops, announced an increase to their pricing this week. The increase sparked a lot of discussion around the web. We think it’s a great sign of the WordPress industry maturing, considering WPMU DEV – another popular plugin shop – also increased their prices earlier this year.

3. Planning WordCamp Toronto 2013
The Toronto WordPress meetup group met last Saturday to chat about plans for the quickly-approaching festivities at WordCamp Toronto 2013. There were plenty of great discussions, and thanks to a surprise downpour, the group squeezed in a bit more conversation than expected. (We’re happy to be on board as sponsors of this year’s WordCamp Toronto!)

4. Free WordPress Workshops Resuming
Our free WordPress workshops in downtown Toronto were put on hold this week because of renovations at the Ryerson Digital Media Zone. Workshops will be resuming on Thursday, August 8th with our Intro to the Admin Dashboard session.

5. Plugin Update: Changing the Default Admin Email Address
This week’s walkthrough release is Changing the Default Administrator Email Address. The default admin email address is where notifications such as form submissions and site errors are sent by default. It’s also the address that site updates will come from, e.g. when a user subscribes to comments for a blog post. In some cases you may have a plugin or theme that overrides this setting. It’s very important that you have consistent access to this email address.
This walkthrough has been automatically pushed out to all plugin users. Nonetheless, make sure you keep your plugin updated! We’re squashing bugs and making fixes on a regular basis.
