Another week is in the can! August has zipped right by – we’ve only got a single week left to go.
Here’s what we’ve been keeping an eye on this week:
8BIT Shutting Down
First it was WP Daily. Now 8BIT is shutting down in its entirety. Customers who bought their Standard premium theme have 30 days of support left. 8BIT is pointing customers to StudioPress and WooThemes as alternative theme shops. No word yet if anyone else will be carrying on development of the Standard theme.

WordPress Book Club via Torque
WordPress news site Torque is starting up a book club:
It’s a very low maintenance book club in the sense that there are no deadlines and no meetings. Torque reader Vanessa Blaylock came up with the fun idea to set up a P2 WordPress site for discussion.
The first book is The Master Switch by Tim Wu.

New Plugin Walkthrough: Changing the Default Date Format
In this walkthrough we change the way the date is displayed by default on your WordPress site. The date is typically displayed next to posts on your site. This setting can be overridden by certain themes or plugins so if it doesn’t appear to work, take a look at your theme settings or any plugins that manage your blog post format or date display.
